Pragmatic Play signs with Betpoint in Italy

Under the terms of the partnership, Pragmatic will provide its slots and live casino games to the operator, which is headquartered in Bari.

Pragmatic’s existing Italian partners include SKS365’s Planetwin365 and Sportbet.

Irina Cornides, chief operating officer at Pragmatic, said: “We’re delighted to be taking our popular slots and live casino range live with Betpoint in Italy – a key strategic market for Pragmatic Play.”

“Bringing quality, choice and premium entertainment to Betpoint players, we’re looking forward to a long and prosperous partnership with one of the country’s top operators.”

Betpoint customers in Italy will now be able to access a number of Pragmatic titles, including Gates of Olympus, Candy Stars and Firebird Spirit.

“Betpoint continues its path of selective enrichment of its offer,” said Giuseppe Simone, director of Betpoint SRL. “We are not interested in indiscriminately increasing the number of our slots but, on the contrary, we aim for a quality offer that represents the best standard on the market, so we are happy to have added Pragmatic games to our public games offering.”

Pragmatic Play has business offices in Gibraltar, Malta and the Isle of Man, as well as development and operational offices in a number of locations around the world.

Fanatics in talks to purchase BetParx sportsbook

According to CNBC – which cited unnamed sources – Fanatics has signed a letter of intent to acquire the sportsbook, although no final agreement has been reached. No details have emerged on the price of the deal.

Fanatics has long signaled its intention to enter the US sports betting market.

Last year, the business filed a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office for a “downloadable application for betting and gaming” named BetFanatics.

Also last year, the company announced the creation of a betting and gaming arm and made a number of major hires in this division.

BetParx  is powered by Playtech and is currently licensed to offer its services in five states – Ohio, New Jersey, Maryland, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

888 William Hill hands new MD role to Walker

Walker takes on the role having previously served as UK managing director for William Hill, continuing in the role after 888 acquired William Hill’s non-US assets in July last year.

This role has been expanded to cover the enlarged UK and Irish operations of 888 William Hill.

Walker joined William Hill in January of 2019 as online managing director before he took on the UK-facing MD position with the operator in September 2020.

Prior to this, Walker was group chief operating officer at the Gibraltar Stock Exchange, while he also spent over two-and-a-half years with Ladbrokes Coral Group, first serving as chief marketing officer before becoming managing director of sports brands.

Earlier in his career, and prior to the Ladbrokes-Coral merger, Walker served in a number of roles with Gala Interactive, including as marketing and customer operations director and managing director for remote gambling.

Aside from this, Walker spent time working in a host of senior roles for DSG International, B&Q, Littlewoods and Great Universal Stores.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as UK and Ireland managing director at 888 William Hill,” Walker said.

The appointment comes after 888, earlier this month, warned that it expects to report a 3% year-on-year decline in revenue for its 2022 financial year, partly due to increased UK safer gambling measures.

The operator also announced that Yariv Dafna is to step down as its chief financial officer.

Sportech trails stronger than expected 2022 figures

The betting and technology business added that its full-year adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) is set to be “ahead of market consensus”.

The business said it has delivered a strong operational performance since the release of its interim results in September 2022.

Sportech, which also operates gaming venues in the US state of Connecticut, said gross gaming revenues (GGR) for 2022 – including sports betting – continued to perform strongly, while food and beverage revenues delivered solid growth, and group operational costs reduced significantly.

With year-end net cash remaining healthy, Sportech said there is potential to return further capital to shareholders in H1 2023. Its 2022 preliminary results are expected to be published in April 2023.

Richard McGuire, executive chairman of Sportech, said: “The group continues to evolve and deliver new growth opportunities. We are strengthening relationships with our betting partners and aggressively reshaping non-operational costs to align with group scale.”

“The outlook for 2023 and beyond is very positive. We will continue to discuss the future business structure with key shareholders to ensure alignment with the board on objectives and direction for the divisions and group.”

The announcement comes after a torrid few months for Sportech, which saw the departure of several senior figures, including chief executive Andrew Lindley, after just six months in the role, and chief financial officer Nicola Rowlands.

McGuire, who quit as chief executive in September 2021, returned to take leadership of the group as executive chairman in May 2022.

In H1 2022, Sportech said group adjusted EBITDA improved markedly during the period to £0.3m, compared to a loss of £0.9m in H1 2021.

Sportech recorded revenue of £22.9m in 2021, a year in which it sold off many business divisions, with these sales powering the business to a £34.5m profit. In 2021, it sold its Global Tote business to Betmakers and Bump 50:50 to Canadian Banknote in February 2021.

Under the deal, GiG will provide the operator with its player account management platform (PAM), front-end delivery and content management system (CMS).
