IBIA welcomes Jack’s Casino & Sports as latest Dutch member

Membership of an international integrity monitoring body – such as IBIA – is a requirement of its new Dutch online gambling licence, which it secured through its parent company JOI Gaming in November last year.

The majority of operators that hold a licence to offer online gambling in The Netherlands are already members of IBIA, with five of the seven operators offering sports betting in the country now part of the organisation.

JOI Gaming securing its Dutch online licence marked its expansion into igaming. Jack’s Casino brand was already established as a land-based casino brand in the country, operating 85 venues in the Netherlands.

“We are proud to become a member of IBIA,” JVH chairman and chief executive Eric Olders said. “By joining we are protecting the integrity in sports and sports betting. Integrity is a key value, for us and for sports.

“It’s essential for athletes and essential for our customers. It’s the basis of our licence to operate.” With the help of the IBIA’s data, potential malpractices can be spotted at an early stage, this enables us to act instantly.

“By joining forces with IBIA we strive for a safe environment for our players, all athletes and sports in general.”

The addition of Jack’s Casino & Sports as a member comes after the IBIA recently launched in the North American market, with further member announcements in the US, Canada and Europe expected in the coming months.

USFL declares support for AGA’s ‘Have A Game Plan’ initiative

As an approved partner of the initiative, the USFL will promote responsible sports wagering through its broadcast, cable, streaming and social media outlets.

Launched in 2019, the campaign promotes four principles of responsible sports wagering including setting a budget and keeping to it, ensuring gambling remains social and only wagering with trusted and regulated operators.

Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM, DraftKings, Delaware North, Entain, FanDuel, MGM Resorts International, MSG Networks, Nascar, the National Hockey League, Penn National Gaming, golf’s PGA Tour, Rush Street Interactive, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship are among the other organisations that publicly support the project.

“We’re proud to partner with the AGA to help drive the important message to bet responsibly,” USFL executive vice president of business operations Edward Hartman said. “As sports wagering expands nationwide, the USFL is committed to help educate our fans so they can better enjoy the experience.”

AGA senior vice president Casey Clark added: “Responsible gaming leadership from professional sports leagues like the USFL is critical to getting sports betting right. We’re thrilled to welcome the USFL as a partner and value their commitment to prioritising responsible sports wagering education for their fans.”

The USFL will launch next month as a new, independent football league. Its inaugural season will feature eight teams split into two divisions. Each team will play 10 games, followed by semi-finals on June 25 between the top two teams in each division and a championship game on July 3 between division winners.

The new-look USFL shares the name and branding of the organisation that attempted to act as a challenger league to the NFL in the 1980s. However, it is not affiliated with the defunct 1980s league or its owners.

Stats Perform scores extension with Chinese Super League

Under the agreement, Stats Perform will serve the CSL’s event and tracking data provider, exclusively collecting tracking data using the SportVU system at the home venues of every CSL club.

Together with Opta event data, this tracking data will be used to supplement the league’s broadcast and digital channels, along with supporting partners including media, brands and sponsors.

Data will be delivered to the CSL through a range of Opta data feeds including advanced analytics data and predictive data for use across broadcast, digital and social platforms, before, during and after matches.

The deal also includes Pressbox Graphics, an application that Stats Perform said would help the CSL deepen fan interest by producing automated visual graphics and animations, powered by Opta data.

In addition, each club will have access to ProVision, a tool that will allow them to use Opta data to undertake analysis of each team, identify tactical trends and share insights with coaches.

The data agreement extends the existing relationship between CSL and Stats Perform that began in 2016.

“We know how important data is becoming to stakeholders in providing their fans with new and engaging audience experiences,” Stats Perform’s chief rights officer Alex Rice said.

“Through the delivery of Opta data, fans of the Chinese Super League will benefit from insights derived from the industry’s leading and most reliable data source. I am also pleased that we will be able to support technical staff with visual in-game insights to help with player engagement and development.”

Stats Perform has a number of other data partnerships in place in the Asia-Pacific region such as with the Thai League, while its global partners include the English Premier League, Spain’s La Liga and Major League Soccer in the US.

Swedish regulator takes no action against Aftonbladet fantasy game

According to the regulator, Aftonbladet advertised a number of fantasy sports events – known as ‘manager competitions’ – between 1 January 2020 and 1 June 2021.

These allowed readers to compete by forming a fictional team, with the opportunity to win prizes such as iPhones and travel gift cards.

The regulator launched an investigation as some prizes – in particular gift cards – could be considered a financial gain, meaning the game would be considered gambling under Sweden’s Gambling Act. Aftonbladet did not, and currently does not, hold a gambling licence.

To enter, readers were required to hold an Aftonbladet Plus subscription, which costs SEK79 (£6.32/€7.58/$8.33).

Aftonbladet argued that no payment was technically required to participate in the manager competitions, meaning that it did not need a gaming licence. Spelinspektionen disagreed, stating that the Aftonbladet Plus subscription, which is required to enter, costs money.

Chapter 3, section 4 of the Gambling Act states that a licence is not required for games that do not cost money to enter.

After the investigation began, Aftonbladet stopped offering prizes with financial value, meaning that it no longer violated the Gaming Act.

Spelinspektionen found that, as Aftonbladet no longer offered these prizes, it therefore does not warrant any penalty action.

Yesterday (21 March), Bayton Limited agreed to pay SEK35,000 to Spelinspektionen after it did not report a change to its board of directors.
