US Q2 commercial gaming revenue reaches record $13.64bn

The previous record was set in Q3 2019, which generated $11.1bn, a figure that was then matched in Q1 2021. The new record is an increase of 22.5% from that previous high.

Most of the quarter’s revenue  – $8.70bn – was generated from slots. A total of $2.14bn was from table games, while igaming and sports betting brought in $901.2m and $888.9bn respectively.

Malta regulator cancels CZ Trading and Cyberslotz licences

CZ Trading had been operating its DrVegas.com online casino website under a B2C Gaming Service Licence, in partnership with approved service provider Cyberslotz.

However, the MGA said that both CZ Trading and Cyberslotz were found to be in breach of regulation nine of the Gaming Compliance and Enforcement Regulations.

This, the MGA said, was in reference to a failure to make certain licensing payments to the regulator “in a timely manner”.

As such, CZ Trading and Cyberslotz are no longer authorised to carry out gaming operations under their Malta licences and were ordered to settle all outstanding fees with the MGA.

The ruling for both licensees came into effect from 17 June.

Last month, the MGA reported a 5.3% drop in revenue year-on-year in 2020 as it accounted for the effects of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The Authority’s total revenue for the year was €77.3m (£65.5m/$90.5m), a 5.3% drop from €81.7m in 2019m while the amounted the gaming industry contributed to the economy in 2020 amounted to €924m, a decrease of 40.8% on the €1.56bn it contributed in 2019.

Mohegan sees Q3 revenue increase by 206.1%

Net revenue for the quarter totaled at $328.1m (£237.1m/280.1m), substantially more than the $107.1m in revenue posted in its Q3 2020 results, which were affected by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Gaming made up $241.2m of the total revenue, a rise of 169.9% compared to Q3 2020. Retail, entertainment and other generated the second most revenue, at $43.8m, an increase of 259.0%. The remaining amount was generated by food and beverages and hotels.

HappyBet pens Germany and Austria-facing deal with AC Milan

Under the deal, the length of which was not disclosed, HappyBet will serve as the official betting partner of AC Milan in Austria and Germany.

HappyBet will also benefit from a branding presence on pitchside LED screens inside the team’s San Siro home stadium.

In addition, HappyBet will work with AC Milan on a range of initiatives targeted at fans in Austria and Germany.

HappyBet, which focuses its activities on the Austrian and German markets, was in May taken over by Playtech subsidiary Snaitech.

Snaitech was acquired by Playtech in June 2018 and now operates as the Italy-facing B2C arm of the gambling tech giant.

AC Milan has similar regional deals in place with a number of other gambling operators including Premier Bet in Africa and Fonbet in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region.

Hacksaw Gaming receives Greek supplier licence

The licence will allow Hacksaw Gaming to distribute its popular slot titles, including Chaos Crew and Stack ‘Em, in Greece.

Hacksaw Gaming has also received licensing for several countries including the UK, Malta and Sweden.

The company has revealed plans to expand into more countries by the end of the year.

“The first half of 2021 has shown a huge increase in demand for our content, and we are honoured to have been awarded a licence by the Hellenic Gaming Commission which will allow us to offer our hit titles to operators in the newly regulated Greek market,” said Marcus Cordes, COO at Hacksaw Gaming.

“We have a number of clients on stand-by and are looking forward to entering this market with a bang.”

Hacksaw Gaming is the latest operator to receive a Greek licence after the new licensing process opened in October 2020. A gambling reform bill, which led to the new licensing process, was passed in Greece in 2019.

Yesterday, it was announced that Bragg’s Oryx had also obtained a gaming licence in Greece. Other recent recipients include Softswiss, iSoftBet, and Kalamba Games.

Bwin scores extensions with German Bundesliga clubs

Each of the agreements will run for three seasons, from the 2021-22 season until the end of the 2023-24 campaign. 

bwin will continue to serve as the exclusive sports betting provider for each of the teams.

The Sportfive agency brokered the deals with the three top-tier Bundesliga clubs on behalf of Bwin.

“It is a great honour for us to be able to continue to be a long-term partner of these five clubs; with our sponsorships, we underline the importance of fans and the passion for football,” Bwin’s managing director for digital in Europe, Stephan Heilmann, said.

Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer added: “We would like to thank Bwin for the trust placed in us. We still believe that the two brands are an excellent match.”

The 2021-22 Bundesliga season kicks off on 13 August, while the second-tier 2. Bundesliga began on 23 July. 

PointsBet appoints Aonghus Mulvihill as sportsbook trading VP

Mulvihill has 15 years of experience in international sports betting, having previously held the roles of director of corporate strategy at Flutter Group and head of performance, proposition and trading at Betfair Exchange.

Prior to his new position, Mulvihill was the commercial director at Betfair International Sports.

New York mobile betting licence bidders revealed

Under New York’s mobile betting rules, the state must select two platform providers, which together must offer at least four skins. Players, however, may only have one account per platform provider.

Among the applicants are FanDuel, which plans to offer products from rival operators BallyBet, BetMGM and DraftKings, while fellow Flutter-owned brand Fox Bet has also submitted a bid of its own with no other partners.

Kambi has submitted two applications; one in which it would partner with Fanatics Sportsbook and Penn National Gaming, and another in partnership with Caesars, Resorts World, PointsBet, Rush Street Interactive and WynnBet.

TheScore, which recently agreed on an acquisition by Penn National Gaming, and UK-based online betting giant Bet365 have also submitted bids, offering only their own products.

Oregon lottery sports betting revenue dips month-on-month in July

Gross gaming revenue figures were $2.2m during July for the state’s DraftKings-powered Scoreboard product, which represents a 21% decrease on the previous month but a 37.5% increase from July 2020.

The revenue was derived from a betting handle of $18.2m after 503,653 total bets were placed.  The handle also decreased from June, dropping from $24.9m.

Baseball proved to be the most popular sport to wager on. It generated a third of the overall handle with $6.3m, with a revenue of $518,778. Basketball was second with a handle of $4.7m although it had a higher revenue of $810,206, while soccer had a $2.6m handle and $255,141 of revenue.

International Tennis Integrity Agency hands provisional suspension to Peru’s Puente

The suspension, issued by independent anti-corruption hearing officer Raj Parker, came into effect on 6 August and prohibits Puente competing in or attending sanctioned tennis events.

The ITIA did not go into further detail about the anti-corruption case, but it did state that it issued the suspension under section F.3 of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Programme (TACP) 2021.

Section F.3 permits the ITIA to suspend a player before notice of a major offence has been issued, prior to a hearing or during a hearing before a decision is reached on the case.

An anti-corruption hearing officer must immediately impose a provisional suspension if they are satisfied the player or individual in questions has been charged with a criminal offence, is the subject of criminal proceedings or subject to an extant criminal order or sentence.

Puente, 32, had a career-high ATP singles ranking of 379 in February 2010 and a high doubles ranking of 393 in August 2011. He was also previously part of Peru’s Davis Cup team.
