Swedish regulator blocks three unlicensed websites

Cerberlot NV, Digi Markets NV and Prism Marketing Limited have all been suspended with immediate effect.

Cerberlot, which operated fortuneclock.com and Prism Marketing Limited, which ran the Goldenaxecasino brands, have both been found guilty of directing their marketing to Swedish customers directly. Digi Markets, which operated spinmillion13.com, was found to be doing the same through affiliates.

All three sites were found to be in violation of sections 2, and 3 of the Swedish Gaming Act. Section 2 concerns directing games towards the Swedish market, while section 3 addresses needing the proper license to provide games – unless given special dispensation by the law.

Speaking about the three websites, Spelinspektionen representative Robert Larsson said: “The Swedish Gaming Inspectorate considers with regard to consumer protection and to guarantee the safety of the game that it is important that the decision is complied with immediately. The decision shall therefore apply immediately.”

The gaming market has been up and running within Sweden since 2019, but the regulator has faced the challenge of stopping players from using unlicensed black market sites. Industry association BOS has repeatedly argued that the country’s recently-extended SEK5000 deposit cap for online casino has played a major role in the country’s low rate of channelisation.

Entain partners with children’s charity on project in Ghana

The Entain Foundation has entered into a partnership with the charity, which supports vulnerable children, including those on the streets, disabled children and those affected by conflict, in developing a new pilot project called Change the first 1,000 Days. It will support 600 out-of-school children in street situations in Accra, Ghana, to ensure they can access early childhood education.

The Entain Foundation will support Chance for Childhood to work within 10 Government Kindergarten Schools in low-income areas of Accra to increase the capacity of teachers and care givers to provide tailored services for children with special needs within an inclusive school environment.

The project will also employ Learning Support Assistants within these schools to tackle current challenges and improve the cognitive and social development of the children.

Commenting on the project, Jette Nygaard-Andersen, chief executive of Entain said: “The Entain Foundation was set up to enable our business to contribute back to society and support communities around the globe.

“We are proud to be able to support the invaluable work of Chance for Childhood, to make a transformational positive impact on such vulnerable children.”

The pilot will seek to produce first-time evidence on the specific learning needs of children within the urban context of Accra. In addition to the Change the first 1,000 Days pilot, The Entain Foundation will be supporting Chance for Childhood on a range of other initiatives, to support vulnerable children.

Anna-mai Andrews, the co-chief executive of Chance for Childhood, said: “Chance for Childhood are absolutely delighted to join forces with The Entain Foundation and all their incredible team to support this critical work to transform the first 1,000 days of children living in the world’s most living in some of the world’s most unsafe, violent and challenging environments.”

The Entain Foundation was established to coordinate and support Entain’s ESG and CSR initiatives, objectives and donations around the world. The Foundation’s efforts are focused on four key areas of responsible gambling; grass roots, women’s and disability sport; men’s health, with a particular focus on mental health; and projects with a clear link to the local community in Entain’s major office locations.

DraftKings to fund new responsible gambling research with ICRG grant

The Fund was created by the ICRG to further research into responsible sports betting practices in the United States.

Nebraska sports betting bill presented to Governor after passing legislature

Legislative Bill 561, which was first introduced on January 19, is set to legalize in-person sports betting at licensed racetracks in the state. NL Minister pledges fast-track reporting system to combat match-fixing

In the wake of MPs querying the impact of confidentiality protocols included in the legislation, Dekker has introduced a new fast-track reporting system. This is designed to ensure suspicious activity alerts are flagged with relevant sporting bodies as soon as possible.

The questions were raised by MPs Anne Kuik, Kees van der Staaij, Rudmer Heerema, Mirjam Bikker, Michiel van Nispen, Paul Van der Laan and Sidney Smeets, who has since resigned, in the wake of an article in the Dutch press.

This claimed the Money Laundering Act, which will come into force this year, would efforts to fight match-fixing.

Under the Act, all details relating to suspected money laundering must be reported to the country’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and otherwise not shared with anyone else. As match-fixing may involve laundered money, or form a part of a money-laundering scheme, this may include reports of match-fixing.

However, in his responses, Dekker said this section of the Money Laundering Act would only be triggered in certain specific situations. Suspicious odds movements may still be reported to governing bodies, as would reports of match-fixing for non-betting purposes.

However, he said, the laws may present an issue for reports of betting activity by participants in sporting events.

As a result, the Dutch government held a meeting with sporting federations, at which it was agreed that the fast-track system would be set up, in order to allow potentially suspicious activity to reach these bodies as soon as possible.

Under the system, the FIU would mark any reports of match fixing as such, so that they could then also be sent to the relevant sporting governing body.

An upcoming strategic consultation on match-fixing will outline the fast-track system further.

Dekker also pointed out that a large amount of match-fixing for betting purposes may still go undetected, as it often occurs in unregulated markets in regions such as Asia.

Online sports betting is set to become legal in the Netherlands on 1 October, after the country’s Remote Gambling Act came into force on 1 April of this year, after a series of delays.

As of mid-April, regulator de Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) said that 28 operators had applied for licences.
